Checklist for new VM

  • Check my ip: ip addr show
  • Check internet/outbound connection: ping 4.2.2.2
  • Check routing:
$ ip route show
  • Check domain name resolution: ping www.google.com
  • Check connection to default gateway: ping 192.168.168.1
  • If 4.2.2.2 responding but domain name not responding, check DNS configuration:
    1. cat /etc/resolv.conf
    2. dig A <google.com> @8.8.8.8
